Research In Motion (RIM), Canada, the BlackBerry maker, claiming to have scored record sales in the first quarter of this fiscal year. The Company is headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, has revealed 11.2 million devices shipped during the quarter ended May 29, an increase compared to same period the previous year which only 10.5 million units.
With the proceeds, RIM posted a first quarter net profit amounted to 769 million U.S. dollars, up 19.5 percent compared with same quarter last year, while revenue grew 24 percent to 4.24 billion U.S. dollars. These results are still below the forecast RIM’s revenue.
The number of users is estimated to grow 4.9 million BlackBerry subscribers during the first quarter, or about the size of the number of customer additions in the previous quarter. Total user’s BlackBerry service is currently estimated to have reached 46 million subscribers.
“We believe that many interesting products, launched the latest Blackberry in the next few months will create a significant opportunity to accelerate the growth of RIM,” said Co-CEO of RIM, Jim Balsillie.
Early this month, the Wall Street Journal reports that RIM is developing smart phone touch screen with slide-out keyboard and tablet computers for wide-screen support services for the BlackBerry. Such a move is probably designed to prevent the BlackBerry market is taken by Apple’s iPhone and iPad creations as well as mobile devices that use Google’s Android operating system.
