India Developing USD35 Laptop

India claims to have developed an inexpensive laptop for USD35. Laptops are using touch screen technology.

According to Human Resource Development Minister of India Kapil Sibal, the laptop will be launched this weekend. The plan of this laptop will be devoted to students in India.

In addition, they also will start mass production of these laptops. Similarly Reuters, Friday (07/23/2010).

“We have reached an era of development at this time, all the components ranging from motherboards, chips, processors and other connectivity is only worth USD35 including memory and everything,” said Sibal.

He said, gadgets are also using the touch screen is equipped with Internet browsers, PDF Reader and also facilities for video conferencing.

Sibal reveals, the laptop is running with the Linux operating system. Later in the year 2011, the price of the gadget is expected to decrease to approximately USD20 and USD10.

This gadget was developed by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science.
